What Are The Signs of Postpartum Depression & What Is A Tongue Tie? (Featured In: Busy Mom Pumping Podcast)

Jun 15, 2022

In 2014, I gave birth to my daughter Aiva via c-section and after several months of bed rest due to a high-risk pregnancy.  The transition into motherhood was not easy for me, a high-achieving Mom who had her whole self-identity wrapped in career achievements.

While I experienced symptoms of postpartum depression such as extreme irritability, exhaustion due to lack of sleep, excessive worry, and hallucinations (a sign of postpartum psychosis), I soon learned that severe sleep deprivation was not helping my recovery.

In this episode of the Busy Mom Pumping podcast, I talk with Lene Allen about what a baby's tongue tie is and how this led to months of severe sleep deprivation contributing to postpartum depression symptoms.

Learn what to watch for while breastfeeding.  There is no guilt or shame necessary to call in a lactation specialist to help. I waited too long to do this due to my ego.  I thought for many months that I was the problem, inadequate at breastfeeding but come to find out both of my daughters were born with tongue ties which require a very simple procedure to help not only feeding issues but also the child's speech and dental development.
